Sweet Deliciousness

As promised (though a little behind schedule), here are some photos of my recent cupcake adventures.

First stop was my chocolate cupcakes topped with mint buttercream and garnished with sugar pearls.  This batch was an order for a friend. And Sam found out this was his favorite flavor (thus far).

Of the remaining cupcakes from this batch, I gave 6 to my trainer for is birthday and the rest came with me to my desk.  I saw desk because these 6 didn’t make it to the kitchen before they had been devoured by co-workers.  These were garnished with cookie bits.

My friend who ordered the batch above inadvertently got me my first order by an unknown (as in a stranger to me).  She ordered a dozen for her granddaughter’s 10th birthday. She wanted light pink, raspberry flavored icing, and the sugar pearls.  This didn’t leave me a lot of room for creativity, but I managed to make them look beautiful! The rose topped cake is for the birthday girl.

Last Friday was the last day for a co-worker in our Florida office. To celebrate (his new move), I brought in spice cupcakes topped with a pumpkin buttercream (now Sam’s favorite cupcake).

My friend requested two miniature cakes – one for her and one for her sister, the birthday girl.  In the end, I fit two 4-in. chocolate cakes filled with a mousse pudding on a 10-in. cake board (on which I wrote Happy 50th). I also made a “5” and a “0” out of chocolate to stick in the tops of the cakes. I think that they turned out pretty nice…and I know that they tasted AMAZING. I love the explosion of sweetness of a traditional buttercream flavored with almond. It tastes, well, decadent.

Best Cupcake Ever?

I have been asked to bake for a co-worker’s birthday tomorrow (and they’ll pay me!).  I’m thinking chocolate-covered cherry cupcakes this time.  Chocolate cake, filled with an actual chocolate-covered cherry, covered with cherry flavored frosting, and – of course – topped with a cherry!

I’m taking suggestions, however, for other flavors and/or combinations! I’ll post tomorrow and let you know what I decided to make.

Gifts for me!!

I love gifts. No way around it – cards, a package of peeps, things for my kitchen, books, socks – you get the idea.  I love knowing that someone was thinking of me while they were out and brought me something because they like/love me.  It makes me feel squishy inside.  I know what you’re thinking, it could just be the package of peeps that I inhaled, but no, it’s the presents.

This week,  I got a digital scale from someone who will remain nameless so that I can start weighing my portions – I have a hard time with the whole portion control thing.  I eat until I’m full rather than satisfied. But, that’s for another posting.

A friend came back from a VERY long vacation (a whole 10 days!) and brought me back a present.  She went to two family weddings up in Michigan.  Have you ever been to Holland, Michigan? Sam and I went a couple of times while we were in that neck of the woods for my friend Katie’s wedding last September.  It is beautiful! It’s a small college town with an adorable downtown area.  I fell in love with Karla’s Place, a tiny shop on the main street downtown that sells handmade items.  That store is actually the reason I started making cake plates to display my cakes and treats.  Anywho, she knows me and brought me back the cutest sprinkles container – before she even knew that I had revamped (and renamed) by blog!

I mentioned my cake plates above. Have you seen them yet? If not, they’re a treat for the eyes and your counter top. Although, my photos aren’t that great.  I really do need a new camera…
